Road and rail noise for any Swiss address
boom shows road and rail noise across Switzerland on a map. It overlays the sonBASE noise model of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), published on geo.admin.ch, for day (06:00 to 22:00) and night (22:00 to 06:00). Search an address or click the map to read the noise exposure at that point.
What a reading shows
- The rating sound level band in dB(A) for the active layer (road or railway, day or night)
- The noise sensitivity level (ES I to IV) of the zone, taken from the cantonal land-use plan where it is published, or selected by you
- The planning, immission and alarm values of the Noise Abatement Ordinance (LSV) for that level, and where the reading sits against them
What you can do
- Switch between road and rail noise, day and night, and adjust the overlay opacity
- Color each parcel by its minimum, mean or maximum noise value instead of showing the federal noise map
- See parcel boundaries drawn on top of the noise colors
- Print the reading, track the parcel, share a link to the current view or export the map as an image
The noise bands are read from the model's published color scale. They are modelled values, not measurements, and only the responsible authority issues legally binding figures.
Frequently asked questions
How much noise is this property exposed to?
Search the address or click the parcel. boom shows the road or rail noise band in dB(A) from the federal sonBASE model, by day or by night, and compares it with the limit values for the zone's sensitivity level.
Is a boom reading a legal noise assessment?
No. boom shows published, modelled noise exposure from sonBASE, not a legal noise assessment or an on-site measurement. Only the responsible authority issues legally binding noise figures.
Where does the sensitivity level come from?
boom looks up the official level in the cantonal land-use plans, which geodienste.ch brings together for all of Switzerland. Where a canton publishes none, you select the level yourself.
